Brooklyn Academy Of Music (BAM) Seeks Sponsorship Intern - Planning and Development Department

Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is an internationally recognized presenter of contemporary performing arts & cinema. BAM's Planning and Development Department raises over $21 million each year for its operating and endowment needs. The department encompasses the following units: endowment, fiscal, grant writing, membership and individual giving, patron services, sponsorship, and special events.

BAM's busy sponsorship department is seeking an intern. The Sponsorship team generates and manages over $3,000,000 annually from the marketing/promotional areas of the corporate sector as well as the philanthropic side of the corporate sector. The unit also works on coordinating sponsorships from non-corporate sectors (such as foreign governments).

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious, energetic self-starter interested in learning about the fast paced world of arts administration & arts fundraising. The position is available immediately. Schedule is flexible (20-40 hours per week). Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with fundraising research and proposal development - research corporate prospects, drafting and entering solicitations in Tessitura (database), make follow-up phone calls
  • Assisting in efforts to generate support for BAM including underwriting for special events and sponsorship of BAM programs
  • Assisting with sponsorship account management-following up on status of proposals and contact information; assembling sponsorship benefit packages
  • Drafting reports, cover, and acknowledgement letters, proposals, agreements
  • Assisting with administrative tasks including making follow-up calls; sending faxes and arranging for messengers; distributing and filing documents and photocopies;
  • Maintaining updated data files and Tessitura (database) information
  • Participate in BAM's Mentoring Program
  • Opportunity to assist individual Planning and Development units during peak times, including assisting with special event planning and expedition, and patron desk service
Requirements: Excellent organizational, writing, and telephone/communication skills; Word and Excel for Windows; some evening/weekend hours are optional.
