Elizabeth Ireland McCann
ELIZABETH IRELAND MCCANN has been the Managing Producer of Tony Award Productions since 2001. This spring she will bring Lisa Kron's new play Well to Broadway. She received her B.A. from Manhattanville College in 1952, her M.A. from Columbia University in 1954, and her Doctor of Law Degree from Fordham University in 1966. She was an associate in the firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison from 1965-66. After serving from 1956- 68 as an associate at numerous theatrical management companies, including those of Robert Joffrey, Hal Prince, Saint-Subber and Maurice Evans, she was managing director of the Nederlander Organization from 1968-76. With Nelle Nugent, she formed McCann & Nugent Productions, Inc., and served as its president from 1976-86. From 1986-1989 she served as executive director of the Big Apple Circus. Ms. McCann has received honorary doctorates from Manhattanville Collge (PhD, 1983, and ArtsD, 1987) and Marymount College (LtD, 1993). She serves on the Board of Directors of City Center of Music and Dance, and Marymount Manhattan College. She is a member of the Society of London Theatre Council. Productions on Broadway include Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Goat (Tony Award), Copenhagen (Tony Award), A View from the Bridge (Tony Award), Dracula (Tony Award), Elephant Man (Tony Award), Nicholas Nickleby (Tony Award), Morning's at Seven (Tony Award), Amadeus (Tony Award), Mass Appeal, Home, Piaf, Rose, Glass Menagerie, Pilobolus Dance Theatre, Leader of the Pack, Stepping Out, Orpheus Descending. With Royal Shakespeare Company: A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, All's Well That Ends Well, Cyrano de Bergerac, Much Ado About Nothing, Good, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Sherlock Holmes and London Assurance. With James M. Nederlander: My Fat Friend, Otherwise Engaged, Habeas Corpus, The Dresser and six R.S.C. productions. Off-Broadway: Beckett/Albee, The Play About the Baby, Three Tall Women, Cobb, The Lady and the Clarinet, Painting Churches and Pacific Overtures.
