BETTINA BURDA was born in Duesseldorf, Germany. She attended school in Munich and received degrees in Art and Design from Oxford University and The Sorbonne. In 1984 she founded the fashion company, Ambiente, which she later sold to Bovelet Vertriebs, a large German fashion manufacturing group. Her husband, Franz H. Burda, is part of one of Germany's largest publishing families. Bettina and Franz moved to New York City in 1987, where he ran Meredith-Burda, the 2nd largest printing company in the United States. Franz Burda is currently Chairman of F.B. Pan Invest, LLC. Bettina Burda is active in the New York community serving numerous cultural and educational organizations and is currently Chair of the Benefit Committee for the St. David's School for Boys and VP of the upper school where she has two children. Because of her interest in education, she recently created a new educational book publishing company in Berlin to promote Art, Language, History and Technology. As a very passionate theater patron she was invited by Isabelle Stevenson to join the Advisory Committee of the American Theatre Wing in 1999.
